Microcurrent point stimulation (MPS) is an advanced and innovative therapeutic modality that promotes wound healing and relieves pain. In this modality, weak electrical currents are applied to the scar tissues modulating the collagen expression in the wound, especially in the keloid scar. In such procedures, degenerate waves of MPS decrease the collagen expression in keloid. In fact, MPS offers objective as well as subjective benefits. On one side, MPS reduces the scar size (keloid) and on the other side it improves stress, chronic pain and itch.
C-section scars pose an adverse impact on the patients’ quality of life, affecting their intimate relationships, cosmetic disfigurement and other health issues. C-section involves cutting of skin, fascia, muscles, uterine wall and other tissues that heals through a scar. The scar can interrupt electrical flux, neurological conduction and energetic flow within the body. Therefore, a scar can produce local cellular imbalance and exacerbate nervous system which may result in chronic pain. In fact, c-section scar may produce a variety of signs and symptoms.
The management of chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) is a continuous challenge for physician with a few viable therapeutic options. In this regard, application of MPS Scar Release Protocol to c-section scars is a promising technique in terms of significant pain relief. MPS not only reduces the intensity of pain but also reduces the duration of pain. More interesting thing is that pain continues to reduce up to 48 hours after the application of MPS. This indicates that MPS induces internal functional changes resulting in reduced pain. Studies have revealed that MPS mimics bio-cellular communications enhancing the regulation of autonomic nervous system and offering body-wide benefits by producing beta-endorphins.
Recent studies validate the potential application of MPS to c-section scars in order to manage non-specific chronic postsurgical pain. MPS can be applied to keloid scars, hypertrophy scars and contracture scars.
